"Happiness is excitement that has found a settling down place, but there is always a little corner that keeps flapping around."

After closing Betsy Ratzsch Pottery in May of 2013 much time and creativity went into building my new home studio - my happy settling down place.  I love this airy new work place on the second floor ... up among the tree tops.  The years transitioning from the life of a production potter/gallery owner to that of a studio artist have been years of growth and change.  As well as learning new art skills (and acquiring the needed materials!)  I needed a new way of thinking about what I made.  I now had the freedom to explore without concern for the mortgage payments!

Instrumental in growth and learning for me have been online art classes.  I didn't know there was such a wonderful art community out there.  Each one comes from their own place in life with different goals but we can share our work together in a safe environment.  Classes help with new techniques, new media and new thoughts.  Currently mixed media and acrylic painting are where I'm most comfortable.  There is so much to try!

Another opportunity for me has been volunteering on the Gallery Committee at LowellArts.  We curate exhibits, jury shows, and help out with staffing of the gallery.  I especially enjoy Saturdays, so come by and say 'hello'!  Check the LowellArts website for the current exhibit information.

I took this picture from a window of my little haven during a snowstorm last winter.  It captures the serenity and tranquility which I so often feel in my  cozy little aerie.
